Shelley Morrison dead at 83 – Will & Grace star who played Karen’s maid Rosario passes away from heart failure

WILL & Grace actress Shelley Morrison who played Karen’s long-suffering maid has died from heart failure aged 83.

The TV star died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA on Sunday after a brief illness, her publicist confirmed.

Morrison played Rosario Salazar, a maid from El Salvador, in the original run of Will & Grace from 1999 to 2006.

The cast for the much-loved sitcom won a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a comedy series.

Morrison’s character was originally written for a single episode.

But she proved so popular in her interactions with co-star Megan Mullally – who played Karen Walker – that she would appear in 68 episodes.

“Rosario is one of my all-time favorite characters,” Morrison said recently, according to a statement and biography announcing her death.

“She reminds me a lot of my own mother, who loved animals and children, but she would not suffer fools.

“It is very significant to me that we were able to show an older, Hispanic woman who is bright and smart and can hold her own.”

Before Will and Grace, Morrison was best known for playing Sister Sixto on The Flying Nun alongside Sally Field from 1967 to 1970.

She guest-starred on dozens of television series starting in the early 1960s, including The Fugitive, L.A. Law and Murder, She Wrote.

Most recently, she voiced a character, Mrs Portillo, on the Disney animated series Handy Manny.

Born Rachel Mitrani to Jewish parents from Spain in the Bronx, New York, in 1936, Morrison spoke primarily Spanish as a child.

She was cast primarily as Latina characters, but she played a range of ethnicities in theater, television and film.

Her movie roles put her in casts with Hollywood’s biggest stars of several eras.

She appeared with Dean Martin in 1968s How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life, with Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl the same year, with Gregory Peck in 1969s Mackennas Gold.

Morrison is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Walter Dominguez.

Jamie Vardy and pregnant Rebekah look loved-up in the sea during Dubai getaway

LOVED up Jamie Vardy shows things are going swell with wife Rebekah as they make a splash in the sea.

The Leicester City striker was pictured hugging and kissing the heavily pregnant WAG during their romantic break in sun baked Dubai.

Jamie and Rebekah Vardy enjoy a paddle while on holiday in Dubai

Dark green bikini-clad Rebekah, 37, was even caught playfully spraying water at the retired England ace clad in a pair of colourful surfer shorts as they made the most of a rare break.

The couple are enjoying some time off together during the international break and shortly after last month’s announcement that she is pregnant with their fifth child.

And earlier this week England boss Gareth Southgate announced that Jamie, 32, could be recalled to the Three Lions team in the near future.

Southgate remarked: “‘It’s obvious how well he’s still playing, and the discussion we had at the time with him was always: ‘Look, neither of us close the door.’”

Rebekah is expecting her fifth child

Sadly Rebekah was also forced to hit back at online trolls that bizarrely claimed her expanding stomach looked “fake.”

She responded on Twitter: “I’m just wondering…what chance do our children have growing up with some of the nasty people out there?

“I don’t care you have a comment about how big or small my bump is, how it looks unnatural or bumpy, I work really hard in the gym because it makes me happy.

“Oh how about how bad my belly button is.. and what (I’ve had four babies) how fat my thighs are or how much cellulite I have on my bum.

Rebekah says she is happy and doesn’t care what people say about her body

“I don’t care you think I’ve got flabby chin, wonky eyes or a face that doesn’t move.

“I don’t care what you say about me…why? Because I’m happy and I love my family.”

And no matter what silly remarks people make, these smiling holiday snaps are bound to bump off the couple’s critics.

Susanna Reid jokes Piers Morgan hasn’t returned to Good Morning Britain because he’s ‘barely speaking to her’

SUSANNA Reid joked Piers Morgan hasn’t returned to Good Morning Britain because he’s ‘barely speaking to her’.

The 54-year-old has been away from the ITV show since before the Easter Holidays, with Richard Madeley standing in for him this week.

Susanna Reid joked Piers Morgan hasn’t returned to Good Morning Britain because he’s ‘barely speaking to her’

Addressing Piers’ ongoing absence, Susanna said this morning: “I am of course back on the programme as you can see, lots of people wondering where Piers Morgan is this morning.”

Turning to co-host Richard, 62, she added: “But it’s absolutely lovely having you here looking after me this week.”

Susanna, 49, then gave viewers a ‘clue’ why her co-star wasn’t sat beside her this week, blaming the football results at the weekend.

She continued: “People have been asking ‘why isn’t Piers here?’ and I have been giving people a clue on Twitter.

Piers has been missing from the show since before the Easter Break
Susanna shared a Whatsapp chat between herself and Piers discussing Crystal Palace’s win over Arsenal at the weekend

“If you look at our Whats app chat, this is from Sunday, I said to Piers ‘big day today’ as Crystal Palace travelled to Arsenal.

“He said ‘huge’, and one minute after the game finished I replied ‘huge’.”

As viewers will know, Piers is a die-hard Arsenal fan, while Susanna’s allegiance is with Crystal Palace as she is dating the club’s part-owner and chairman Steve Parish.

She said: “I’d just like to remind you of the score line, Crystal Palace 3, Arsenal 2.

Susanna joked Piers – a die hard Arsenal fan – had barely spoken to her after his team lost 3-2

“And then he said ‘I can’t talk to you right now I’m too enraged’ and he’s barely spoken to me since!”

Viewers took to the comments section to tell Susanna to continue to rub salt in Piers’ wound when he does eventually return to the show.

One wrote: “You got to wear your Crystal Palace shirt on Piers’ return. It’s got to be done… no excuses.”

Another added: “Definitely the Palace shirt his first day back.”

Where is The Bay filmed? Blackpool and Morecambe locations used in the ITV series revealed

ITV drama The Bay has had viewers hooked with its gripping plot about two missing teenagers – but it is due to come to an end TONIGHT.

We take you through the locations used for filming the show.

The Bay was filmed in Morecambe
The Bay was filmed in Morecambe

Where is ITV drama The Bay filmed?

The Bay is set and filmed in the coastal town of Morecambe.

The Lancashire town is located north of Blackpool, and was once a bustling seaside resort.

Morecambe has a five-mile stretch of sandy beach with a long promenade, lined with cafes, restaurants and hotels.

Screenwriter Daragh Carville purposely wanted to focus his attention on Morecambe, mainly because it’s a place with lots of history and happens to be where the 50-year-old spent a great amount of time growing up.

Morecambe Beach

Up until the 1970s, when Brits could increasingly afford holidays outside of England, Morecambe was popular with tourists.

Filming took place along the beach, but particularly around the Stone Jetty which is now all that remains of the original Victorian harbour.

Carville  said: “I suppose the combination of it being a beautiful place, but also a place that has had its struggles – there’s something about Morecambe, it’s literally on the edge of the country, but there’s also a metaphorical edge to it as well.”

Morecambe Bay in Lancashire is probably best know nowadays for the 2004 cockle picker disaster where at least 21 Chinese illegal immigrant labourers were drowned by an incoming tide.

Morecambe Beach features heavily in the show

Karaoke Bar

The drama opens with DS Lisa Armstrong and her friends heading to The Royal Bar, which is on the seafront.

Here they take part in a karaoke night and Lisa meets Sean Meredith.

While many shows would tend to use a studio stage to film a bar scene, The Bay was actually shot on location, which Carville reveals wasn’t even a question given how many karaoke bars are known to be around the area where production took place.

He said|: “You won’t be surprised to learn that there are plenty of bars in Morecambe, including plenty of bars that do karaoke – so that’s a real spot.”

Police station

Contrary to belief, again, the police station in Morecambe is real.

There was no staging built for the sake of having to film in places such as a police station – almost everything is shot in a working environment.

“But to be fair, and without wanting to ruin the magic of television, the exteriors and the interiors are filmed at different places,” Carville continued.

While exteriors were shot in Morecambe, the interior scenes of meeting rooms, offices and interview rooms were filmed at a disused police station in Manchester.

The police station that is featured in The Bay is actually Morecambe police station

The Lido

Later in the series, The Bay takes a trip away from Morecambe further along the bay to Grange-over-Sands, famously known for its decaying Art Deco that once used to be a popular attraction for tourists and local residents.

Filming took place at Grange Lido, which is a disused lido that unfortunately closed in the 90s, which many locals are desperate to reinstate with new construction.

“There are a few absolute gems like that around the Morecambe Bay area,” Carville explained, describing the place as “special” and “magical”.

“Another one – we glimpse it in the show, although we don’t have any actual scenes set there – but there’s an absolutely beautiful Victorian music hall called the Winter Gardens.

The Bay is a new ITV drama

Why was Morecambe chosen as The Bay location?

Speaking about why he chose Morecambe, The Bay screenwriter Daragh Carville told Radio Times: “I suppose the combination of it being a beautiful place, but also a place that has had its struggles – there’s something about Morecambe, it’s literally on the edge of the country, but there’s also a metaphorical edge to it as well.”

Carville seemed to have plenty of knowledge about the area before choosing to lock it in as one of the main filming spots for the drama series, seeing that he grew up in Lancaster, which is just inland from Morecambe.

It seemed as if Daragh was very adamant on the idea of using this location in the show, particularly because it fits the narrative of something that looks “beautiful but it’s also a place with problems.”

“Morecambe is also not the sort of place you usually see in a TV drama.

“One of the reasons I wanted to write this story and to set it there was just simply because nothing had been set there before,

“And I think there’s something really important about seeing your own life represented on screen or on stage.”

When is The Bay on TV?

The Bay comes to an end TONIGHT at 9pm on ITV.

In case you happen to miss any of the upcoming episodes, you can always catch them again on ITV Hub.

Alternatively, you can also watch each episode an hour after it has aired on ITV by simply heading to ITV+1.

GMB’s Charlotte Hawkins looks unrecognisable modelling raincoats on This Morning in hilarious throwback video

GOOD Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins looked unrecognisable modelling raincoats on This Morning in a hilarious throwback video.

The 43-year-old presenter was alongside guest host Richard Madeley – who used to present This Morning with his wife Judy Finnigan – when he said: “You were on This Morning once weren’t you?”

Charlotte Hawkins looked unrecognisable modelling raincoats on This Morning in a hilarious throwback video

Starting to cringe, Charlotte replied: “I was, I was just thinking that as it was the first time I had ever appeared on television.”

She then begged the producers: “Please do NOT find it!No!”

Turning to Richard and Susanna Reid, she added: “While I was at university I had to model raincoats on This Morning!”

Richard, 62, replied: “I must say I’ve seen the picture, you look totally different. You don’t look like you at all.”

Charlotte was at uni when she made her first appearance on TV
Charlotte was mortified as the clip played

When Charlotte joked he meant she looked awful, he said: “No just different, in a rain coaty sort of way.”

Moments later, the clip was inevitably shown, causing Charlotte to bury her face in her hands.

As Richard sat alongside wife Judy on This Morning, Charlotte stepped onto the catwalk in a cream raincoat.

With short blonde hair, Charlotte didn’t crack a smile as she struck a pose with her snake print handbag.

Richard Madeley – who was hosting This Morning during Charlotte’s TV modelling debut – was amused by the clip

Judy could be heard saying: “They really are short aren’t they?” which made Susanna and Richard laugh out loud back in the Good Morning Britain studio as Charlotte looked mortified.

She said: “I can’t believe you’ve just done that.”

Richard joked: “You look as if you’ve been out all night. You look hungover, pale, drunk.”

Charlotte laughed: “I was at uni at the time…I was trying to do the mean and moody as you walk down the catwalk look.”

Dancing on Ice inspires teen skating drama

BETWEEN the perilous falls and Jason Gardiner’s cutting barbs, Dancing On Ice is never short of high-stakes twists and turns.

So it was inevitable the hit ITV show would provide inspiration for an ice-skating drama.

I can reveal the makers of Grange Hill and Hollyoaks, Lime Pictures, are launching a programme about a group of teenagers involved in the highly competitive sport.

A source said: “Skating has become hugely popular off the back of Dancing On Ice, Margot Robbie’s film I, Tonya and the recent ITV drama, Torvill & Dean.

“Lime Pictures decided that the brutal training regime and extremely competitive nature of ice skating would be great starting point for a drama.

“The storyline is being kept under wraps — but it’s going to shed light on the dark side of skating as the characters gamble their friendships to reach the top of their game.”

The programme is not the only upcoming skating show, with Spinning Out from Netflix hitting our screens later this year.

Skins star Kaya Scodelario and US actress Emma Roberts have both signed up for the ten-part drama.

Who knew we’d all be so interested in skating before Dancing On Ice came along.

But she’ll be miffed to hear her co-star on the show, which starts tonight, thinks the #MeToo movement has had a negative effect on telly dramas.

The show has Sheridan’s character, office cleaner Sam, getting in on City trading tricks

Ben Bailey Smith plays stockbroker Blake, who unwittingly introduces Sheridan’s character, office cleaner Sam, to lucrative insider trading. He said: “There’s a lot of stuff out there now that’s a little bit box-ticky where they’re like, ‘Hey, look – it’s all women doing things you don’t see women do.’

“I watch it and think, ‘Yeah, that’s all it is – it’s not actually all that good.’

Ben added: “It’s weedling its way into everything, I’m also talking about black characters as well. Because we’ve got #MeToo, because we’re combatting racism head on, then suddenly they have to go over the odds. No white, straight male could say this – but I’m getting a bit of diversity-fatigue.”

I’m not sure Sheridan will feel the same way, Ben.

Lisa Armstrong has revealed a new look in a blue wig as she posed with her Strictly colleagues

Two of her friends wore similar coloured wigs, while the third opted for a silver bob.

As they all pouted for the camera, Lisa’s friend captioned the shot on her Instagram page: “Oh how I love to arse about in a wig. So do these guys ! #wig #strictly #strictlyglam #hairandmakeup.”

Lisa’s new look comes a day after she attended a court hearing in London to finalise the details of her divorce from ex-husband Ant, 42.

Mr Justice Mostyn asked in court: “Why is he not here? There isn’t one law for the famous and one for the rest of the community.

“The rules say he was supposed to be here – and that can be reported. He has been told off.”

However Ant hit back last night, with his representative saying he was told he didn’t have to attend.

Kelly Brook feared she was being catfished when messaging future boyfriend Jeremy Parisi for SIX MONTHS before they met

KELLY Brook was so worried she was being catfished when she first chatted to Jeremy Parisi online that she forced him to prove he was real – and messaged him for SIX MONTHS before they met.

Catfishing, for the uninitiated, is where someone uses pictures of other people to chat up potential partners.

Kelly feared that Jeremy was faking it online![/caption]

The 38-year-old explained how she challenged her now-boyfriend Jeremy, asking: “Is this definitely you?” before getting him to video chat to make sure he was the real deal.

Speaking on her Heart Drivetime show about how she tracked down 33-year-old Jeremy online, the TV star revealed: “I met him on Instagram – it’s the way forward.

“I saw a video of him and I thought, ‘Oh I wonder if he’s on Instagram.’

“Obviously he was, as everyone is, and I started following him and I saw he followed me back, so I just slipped in to the DMs and I was like, ‘Ohhh thank you for the follow.’”

The pair have now been together for three years[/caption]

She told her Heart co-host Jason ‘JK’ King: “I wasn’t very cool, I went straight in!

“I didn’t want to be catfished so I wanted to make sure it was him and I said to him ‘Um, is this definitely you?’ and he said, ‘Uh, is this definitely you?’

“So I said, ‘Well let’s Skype.’ Then, once I saw it was him, we could have a proper conversation.

“We spoke on social media for about six months. We didn’t really see each other, we were just friends.”

Kelly dropped the bombshell on her Heart Drivetime show

However, it seems Kelly’s caution has paid off.

She’s been dating the French-Italian martial arts instructor, 33, for over three years after going public in 2015.

Jeremy joined a long roll call of hunky men Kelly has has relationships with, starting with actor Jason Statham, 51, who she dated between 1998 and 2004.

She then moved on to Hollywood actor Billy Zane, 52, between 2004 and 2008, even going so far as to get engaged.

But by the look of things, it seems Jeremy is for keeps. Hooray for Instagram, eh?
